~Whatcha Working on Wednesday~

Well, hello all my blogging friends!
How are you today? It's gloomy here and rainy so a good day to stay inside and finish up some projects and of course tweak some. That's what I've been doing to my Hoosier...I love this piece we bought from an estate of a 100 year old man and only for $100.00, of course that was in the 80's. It was painted white with black and red decals on the doors so I had it stripped and done in a walnut which cost about $100.00 but well worth it. It has moved everywhere with me and has been decorated in so many different ways over the years but I think this is the best way yet. One thing about painting and laying new floor is that the rooms get stripped of everything then when it's time to redo you have a blank room to do it in.

I made some grungy pears...found them at a variety store for .25 a piece and nestled them in a wood trencher that I painted black then mustard, I can't remember if I stained it or not...I'll have to check. The breadboard, I found for a $1.00 while at a yard sale and I painted it black then Butter Pecan with dark walnut stain, also the candle holder with the Simplify tag I won from Lizzie's Homespun, it's filled with berries and a tiny gingerbread man.
Here is a picture of the middle part of it, I switched some things around and also removed some!

The top...I finally got it right I think, gone is the pickle jar with all the cookie cutters in it that I kept up there for years.lol

When I showed this picture on my last post I knew it needed something more so I added a wooden bowl with candle nubs and berries.

The right side of my Hoosier...

with barrel of apples below!

By the corner cabinet I put my ladder with some homespun towels and moved the sample over to the left more.

I moved the little black chair from the livingroom by my desk and put it under the picture of Abe next the bushel basket of ticking pillows which hides an electrical outlet:)

Now on to some painting I've been doing over the last couple of days...remember this towel rack that I found at GW? I didn't care for the finish of it at all so I've painted it black and I think I'll do it like the cutting board in the following picture, I also think I'm going to take down the cupboard that I have above the table with all my wooden bowls and put this towel rack there instead!

I painted this black then put Folk Art~True Burgundy on then dark walnut stain. I love how it turned out...a real dark barn red.

While I was at Michael's Saturday I bought these stacking boxes and I'm pretty sure I'm going to paint them all blue for a change.

Well, that's about all for me today... maybe I'll list some things on my selling blog which has been sadly neglected since we started all this on the house. Just a reminder...if you order on my selling blog PLEASE email me and not leave a comment telling me that you would like to buy, once I list I don't check the comments everyday on it. Thanks!
Now... to see more WWW stop over Leslie's , Mr. Linky is working:)

~Busy Weekend~

Hello everyone!
We had a busy weekend here unfortunately not with the house, Jennifer and Jeremy, her boyfriend, came home from Winston-Salem, NC and just left about an hour ago. Saturday evening after I got home from the mall shopping with Michele and the girls, we went to the Greene Cove to eat, the same place we took Michael and Corrie, which I have pics of in a earlier post. The food there is so good... of course I had to bring half my sandwich home because it is just to big to eat all at once:)

We are making plans to go and see Michael in Annapolis, Maryland then leave there for North Carolina to go see Jennifer and Jeremy's new home, probably around the 11th of July:) I can't wait to see Annapolis Michael said it is beautiful especially the older part with the harbor.

This is what I did today...remember the wood tray I found at the yard sale? Well, I painted it black then Colonial blue, distressed it then added dark walnut stain. I think it turned out great! Friday I did the kitchen door that as you can tell opens out to the garage, it looks really old, Stush's brother was here and just loved the look of it...look at my stepback cupboard, it's been out there since April 7th.lol Oh, well I'll get it in before summer is over I hope:) That's what happens... life just gets in the way! To the left of the door is a wooden pineapple that I got for half off at The Country Store, I painted it black and distressed it, although you can't see it and stained it...love it painted black instead of the wood.
I've had this wreath for years and right in the middle behind the flowers and greenery is a birds nest, I had this wreath on my door when I lived with my son Chris. The birds would attack him every time he came thur the door but for some reason never me.LOl I added the cute crow that Christine sent in my package for the porch swap, he's holding a jingle bell from his beak:) and the wreath is now on my back porch:)
I want to thank everyone for their wonderful comments on the post showing my window and stained trim, some asked questions about the valance that is shown in my header. Well, I've had that valance for quite awhile... I had a gift certificate one year for The Country Store and saw the valance and I just had to have it, I only bought one because it was $30.00 but I've always kept it, the star is made out of a suede fabric and it washes up really well. I'm glad I did keep it and for the lady who asked if I'd mind if she made one just like it, I don't mind at all, it's just a great compliment to me...thank you!

~Whatcha Working on Wednesday~

Hi friends!

Well, I think I'm the only one doing WWW but that's okay summer is a busy time for all of us:) I'm posting this at 4:25 PM so that's how occupied with finally decorating I am:)

My punched tin light came in yesterday and I just love it, it's the willow design! I've always wanted one so to say I'm thrilled is so true!

Here's my kitchen window of course the flash made the trim look alot brighter then it is...we took down the wood valance that was there and that really opened up the area so well. Here is without the flash... probably what it will look like at night...did I say I love it:)

This stencil painted can I got at a yard sale Saturday really came in handy for when I received my porch swap package from Christine at Stitches and Boards one of the neat things in the box was these three, prim flags, Christine is quite the sewer everything she sent was handmade by her, thanks Christine I just love everything! Christine is having puter trouble right now so I hope she will be back to blogging soon. I'll be showing the prims she sent in photos in stead of all grouped together over my next couple posts:) Don't the flags look just great in the stenciled can? Looks like it they came together doesn't it? Have this sitting on the right side of my sink so that I can look at them often. The glass jars beside the flags, I got two of the back ones from GW for .79 a piece and the one to the right and up front was a Yankee Candle jar and I painted the lid black:0 The beans in the first jar were in a bottle from GW for .50...I'm even getting beans from GW. LOL I have my blue eggs that I bought at the Rusty Tin with the prairie grass in the second jar:)

Now my keeping room is right off the kitchen with a breakfast bar separating it...I'm just loving the blue, I finally feel like this house is coming together why?...because I made up my mind to embrace the blue of my couch, I read that on another blog but can't remember where.:)
I put the crock bench in front of the window instead of the sewing maching cabinet and it looks so much better.

Here is my corner cabinet and do you see on the second shelf the rabbit holding the flag? Christine also made me that and I'm loving it!

The wood table that I had in the middle of the room I put next to my hoosier and took the bowls out of the drysink and put them here...the container they are in is a heavy metal thing with compartments I found it at the Meadows Antique Fair a few years ago for $5.00 already painted a dark red:)

I put this blue cupboard above the table with the bowls and also the Noah's Ark sampler I did. The wood candle on top of the cupboard was painted a barn red then I painted it black but decided that it would look better with some butter pecan paint instead.

Here are the pin keeps I've been collecting the one in the very front is also from Christine. It's a bird nestled in a ball jar lid with a garland of jingle bells entwined around it...I just love it:)

This is what I've been doing for WWW and I'm enjoying it finally, next though is the diningroom and livingroom to paint and then I'll be able to move my stepback cupboard in finally:)
Have a great evening, the sun hasn't been out once today here!!!

~My Back Porch and Yard Sale Finds~

Hi!!!
I haven't been on here since last Wednesday...I can't believe it, can you? I've been busy with this house and this weekends weather was so nice that we didn't do anything but relax, well Stush did paint the closet doors in the entry way and put them up:)

We did get the porch furniture out and I took a few pics, I'm not done yet but I guess it will get finished by the time summer officially gets here!
Here's my swing...my favorite place on the porch, I had a good time decorating it because I haven't been able to do much of that lately. I love to sit here and swing with a favorite book, it's always cooler out there and since we are trying to not put the AC on until we really have to it seems this is where you can find me. I bought the rug at Big Lots for $15.00 the last one and I love it, for some reason I can't stand the feeling of cement in my bare feet, it's a large rug so it does the job for me. This is a view from the swing side...I had every intention of spray painting the wicker black this year but I think I'm going to pass, I'll save it for next spring.lol I love the Boston ferns on the end of the porch, makes it look and feel cooler for some reason, to the left you can see my potting bench which I still need to tweak more.

I love this flag garland looks really neat when you look out the door from the living room. Stush is working on the pool as I type so I'll take more pics to show.

I have had this bench for a long time...it is really long and is painted a blue grey and I had stenciled barn red stars on it. I was always going to paint it another color but thank goodness I didn't! The basket on it I got at a yard sale Saturday for a $1.00, it has little legs on the bottom which I thought was neat.

As I mentioned I hit two yard sales Saturday, one on my way to pick up Alex at her other gramma's, I picked her up and we stopped. Alex had never been to a yard sale but boy she caught on right away... I looked at her one time and she was digging thur boxes like a real trooper.lol
At that yard sale I found an old rolling pin for .75 and the pink carrier for .50 for my craft things and toys for Alex of course!
The next yard sale was here in my town and the sign said "Nice Yard Sale" so I had to stop!
Two pictures frames for .50 a piece the basket in the upper left hand corner .50...the stenciled can for .50, I'll show a pic of what I did with that in my next post, two tin plates and the front one is a strainer type both were a $1.00 a piece! The muffin tin was just a $1.00 and I can see how some make their pantry cakes by using one of these muffin tins see the pattern?

I also found the kitchen gadgets at the top of the picture for .25 a piece they will go on my kitchen Christmas tree...old refrigerator jar .50...brown painted clothes pins tied with blue homespun .50 for all. The wood tray I think was a $1.00, I'm going to prim it up though.

In this next picture you can see the kitchen tools better and the homespun they are on I bought at the Country Store:)

I've been visiting blogs and everyone seems to be so happy summer is here, gardens are being planted and homes are getting a more Americana look to them, I'm glad it's here too?
Yesterday we were at Michele's swimming so I got a little to much sun but it was worth it love seeing them have a good time!
Now I have to get back to doing the rest of what I have to do today, I did get the laundry done and vacuumed the rooms as best I could what with everything all over the place, oh well it will get done eventually.
Have a great evening!

~Whatcha Working on Wednesday~

Hi everyone!
What a rainy, gloomy day it is and it's freezing in this house because Stush painted the window trim today, I even have the oven on making meatballs just to make it a little warmer in here.LOL

I haven't been doing much crafting because there is just no where to craft, the diningroom is to dark because the light fixture is down and has been for a month, I will be so glad to have this done and over with! I know I've said that before but I truly mean it:)

This is a picture of my keeping room window trim...look at those geraniums in my window box, looks good against the blue doesn't it...not the blue tape though. I'm so very anxious to decorate...such an addiction ladies:0, at least the corner cupboard is back in place and I hung some baskets on the peg rail just to see if I'd like baskets there:)
Here I'm showing you the difference in the blue once you stain it with the watered down, dark walnut stain...I just wiped it on and wiped it off:)
The window over the sink...I'll be staining all of this tomorrow. I can't wait to put up the punched tin light, I think it will look so nice there:)

Well, that's all I've been working on besides watching the girls, tomorrow I'm free so I'll be staining:0
Stop over Leslie's and see what everyone else is up to for WWW!!!

~Beautiful Morning and a Sneak Peek~

This is what I woke up to at 6AM...isn't it just beautiful, it just makes you so glad to be alive! So of course I had to take a picture for you to see also:) Here is a sneak peek of the trim...yes, I went with the blue that I darkened with the walnut stain, I figured if I didn't do it now I never would, this is in the keeping room and will also be in the livingroom. Michele liked it so I knew it looked good because I know she would have told me if she didn't like it:)
It's coming along good, we worked all day yesterday and the day before and even did the back porch...hanging my swing and getting the porch furniture all out, I had a good time decorating it. I'll post pics of it when we open the pool, that is next on the to do list...the weather hasn't been hot enough to do any swimming so whenever he wants to do it is fine with me. Right now he is draining water off the pool cover so should be ready in a couple days, I want everything done so that we can enjoy the summer.
Let me know what you think about the color of the trim...I have been trying to visualize in my head how I will be decorating these two or should I say three if you include the diningroom, I'll be using a little patriotic, not alot because I think sometimes you can have just to much and I don't want that, I'm really excited about it and I think my next thing to do when done is to stencil the rooms, I know Stush would draw a straight line for me to follow but I'll think about that later:)

Have a great Monday and can you believe it is June 1st? Sydney has the rest of this week and then school is out for the summer, then I'll have two mornings that I get to sleep in a little:)
