~102 Minutes That Changed America~

Terrifying is the only thing I can say for that day, I didn't turn on the television that morning, I was getting ready to go to work...didn't even turn on the radio in the car, why? I don't know, I didn't know about it until later in the morning... going into work I did notice the plain blue sky which was usually crisscrossed with jet clouds and I thought it looked so odd, finally at work in the lunch room I watched on tv the horror of that day even the shock of watching the 2nd plane go into the building. I called each one of my kids just to see where they were at... Michele was pregnant with Sydney and off that day, Nick and Michael were teaching and Chris was in Pittsburgh in backed up traffic trying to get out to come home...everyone was safe.

A year later I went to New York City and visited the site of the downed Twin Towers, I will never forget the erriness of the place the total quiet, the twisted steel in the form of the cross, the front of the fire station still with boots, coats and flowers and steps leading up to no where, I wonder if they have kept those steps for a memorial... I know there was talk of it.

That day has taught me one thing never ever take your love ones for granted...all those men and women kissed their loved ones goodbye expecting to come home for supper... they didn't.

  3. Rondell -

I don't think any of us will ever forget where we were and what we were doing when we got the news; it's one of those life-changing moments.

  5. I will never forget that day either. Connor was a baby and I had just started teaching again. I was photocopying tests when our principal announced that there had been an airplane accident. Only later did the details of this surreal tragedy unfold.

I remember having this primal urge to collect the baby, call Todd, and hunker down at home. But we all persevered, prayed, cried, and remembered. I know I count my blessings and hold everyone a little closer now...

  6. It's amazing to me that out of something so tragic, so many feelings of gratitude and love came...I can remember those feelings just like it was yesterday. julie

  7. I remember that morning very well...I was here at home...Joy was 2 years old. I remember praying...crying...a little fear crept up.....but I love the way America pulled together during that time. If America would pull together always like we did at that time, it would be wonderful!

    God Bless America!

P.S. - The comment you left on Thursday's post....the last line...I'm not sure what you were asking or saying...I didn't want to pass over it in case I should answer a question or something! :) Did I overlook something?

Thanks Rondell! I always enjoy seeing a comment on my blog from you!

    Happy Friday!

  8. I know exactly what you mean! The day after 9-11, it was so strange for us not to see or hear a plane! We live in a flight path. It's never really loud but you notice the planes if you happen to be outside.
And then weeks later, when air traffic was reopened, it was just as eerie! It was so odd to see and hear planes again!
I pray that the USA never has to go through something like that again.
