~A Thank You & Something New~

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Friday was a good day for me, most importantly my son, Nick's football team won and it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be and it didn't rain so I'm very thankful for all of that! On the way to the game we stopped at the mailbox and I recieved the two giveaways I had won:) The first package was from Kimberly at My Brown Bag Studio, just the sweetest Christmas ornament ever and done so well! Kimberly even sent me a Christmas card with it, and to show you I put my Santa with it that I had got at a yardsale a week or so ago:)Thanks Kimberly, I love it and it will be put on my Christmas tree this year. The second evelope was the best soy tarts that I have ever smelled, I have the Apple Jack Peel one in my tart burner as I'm typing this and my house smells so good the other is cloves! Debra from Pilgrims and Pioneers had this giveaway and I'm so glad I won because I have never used soy ones before and always wanted to try them, there is a big difference, no waxy smell and not overpowering at all! Stop over and visit these two very special ladies okay?
Now here is my something new, as you can see from these two pictures my livingroom and diningroom is one long room, this pic is on the left side of the fireplace and the pic below is on the right side, that's doors on either side of the fireplace plus on the right side is also a window. Should I put valances on them or is there something I can do above them that I just can't think of, I'd love some suggestions:) I just don't know what to do, when I moved in here there were dark, country blue, foldup shades, well they made it so dark in here that I convinced Stush to get these Levilor blinds. Of course it seems everytime I talk him into something it ends up costing more :(
1: He had to buy the more expensive blinds because the other ones were to short for the doors and window.
2: He had to drill holes in the bottom of the doors for the blinds so they would stay put at the bottom...well he drilled just a smidge to high and the safety glass just shattered, looked like one of those bathroom windows that you can't see out or in:) A $170.00 to get it fixed and installed! Yikes!!!

It was the first door window that you see in the picture below, Stush was not a happy camper let me tell you!

It does brighten it up alot though so my mission was accomplished. lol

  1. I like the blinds, but they can get costly. How about instead of a valance above your windows, adding one of those long shelves above. It gives you more room to decorate. :) You're lucky to have such a large room!
I can't wait to see what you do!

  2. what nice goodies to find in your mailbox!...and I love to have homespun hanging around my windows...I just think it feels "warmer" to cover the windows and blinds....just my humble opionion though.

  3. Congrats on all your winnings! Didn't you win another giveaway just recently also? You have the lucky streak!

No suggestions on the doors. But I will be looking forward to reading others. I have a set of doors I don't know what to do with.

  4. Congrats on all of your winnings. I keep seeing your name as the winner on the giveaways! You've been a lucky! Maybe you should play the lottery?

If you're looking to try something, valances are a simple way to change the look and kind of soften up the look of the blinds. They would also be one of the cheaper solutions if you sew them yourself or find something simple, you could embellish by adding a strip of other fabric at the top, bottom or somewhere in the center, like the ticking you love so much.

Gotta run...the hubby is waiting for his computer time! LOL

    Have a great night :)

  6. Hi Rondell- that sure is a very nice Christmas ornament and the card is great too.
I love the inside of your house!
Iam like you - I need my house to be light & airy! My only suggestions are some homespun valances to add some color or possibly you could wrap the rod with a decorated grapevine garland or a pipberry garland.
You are such a decorating genius I am sure you will come up with something great!

  7. I think a valance or swag on each is the way to go to make it look more prim and soften all the hard surfaces on that side of the room. Sometimes windows are so hard to prim up yet make them work the way we need them to in real life!

  8. I am a valance gal as they give the room color but let the light in but whatever you decide will be wonderful, I am sure.

I can relate to that little story as it sounds like something that would happen to me. Luckily, my hubby is great guy and doesn't stay mad too long!!!

    Love your blog!!

  12. YEP, I think those penny rug valances would look great there too.

I got that dinnerware as a set from
    http://www.britchesnbowscountrystore.com/intro.html about 2 yrs ago.

I know its been featured in Country Sampler a few times as well.

The salad plates have crows on them, the dinner plates have stars.

  15. Congrats on winning the giveaways. I think you could put up some valances or just leave them. I've heard "window treatments" are out, but that hasn't stopped me, I think they can really warm up a room!

  22. Congratulations on your wins!!!

I like the blinds you have on the doors..but it would cozy it up to have some valances or something..perhaps something made from a heavy fabric...just my two cents :)

    Have a wonderful day :)

  23. The room looks great! We have Levelor blinds on all of our windows. I wish my windows could be bare, but we have such hard summers, they really do help control light and help block out heat.
Sorry about the one door glass shattering. I bet that was an awful mes to clean up too! Glad it all worked out in the end for you.
I can picture some homespun valances up there or maybe something unexpected, like one of thsoe long two-man saws with a scene painted on it.
