♥ Whatcha Working on Wednesday ♥

The first Wednesday of the new year...neat huh? I really believe this year is going to be alot better for us than the last, I think people have a better attitude then they did in 08 and I think it's called HOPE!!! I've been doing alot of thinking?...no, just a change in my own attitude to better myself and to lose these 15 lbs that I almost lost then gained back and to excercise more also to excercise even when the holidays roll around again!

I havn't posted since Friday because I've been cleaning everyday it's just amazing how much dust settles in a month so I bought myself a Swifter duster and I love it! I remember Linda mentioning it in one of her posts so I thought I'd give it a try...it is great for those small places that you can't reach and it worked great on the iron work of my sewing machine cabinet which I always hated to dust, so give one a try I think you will love it too:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is what I've been working on in between cleaning frenzies...there are 12 pennies and I have 8 done, I found a place for it on the bench that Michele gave me for Christmas with the Macintosh Yankee candle Michael and Corrie gave me on it. I love the look of it and it's right beside my computer which makes it so nice to sit and smell the fragrance of it. I think it looks colonial and prim:) When I get done with the rest of the pennies I'm going to start some stitcheries, I've missed doing them:) Now here is a question for you...how do I remove the candle wax in this large jar? I used the jar as a vase so there is also some grassey stuff in it I want to put a label on it that I bought a bunch from a lady on ebay:)
Here they are ( I'm still fooling and using different settings on my camara so bare with me:) So many neat ones to put on jars...I did buy two other jars at Walmart but I'm going to return them and get another big jar because of the size of the labels. I could cut them to size but then you would be cutting off the burnt edges which make them look so neat and old.
I bought them from Yankeelaneprimitives I recieved 16 for 9.87 and the shipping was free, I always look for that:) I didn't save her in my ebay sellers so here is the item no. TLOFA260333953865 I think this will get you to her if you want to look at what she has! She also includes instructions for grunging the jar and I'm going to try it I know I said that all of last year and this year I'm going to do it♥
Have a wonderful day... it's raining here, has been for two days but I know Ican't wait to get our very first snow storm, just one that's all I want.lol
Stop over at Leslie's to see who else has been busy:)
Update...I have the jar in the freezer and keeping it in till tomorrow...thanks for all your great advice.
  2. Hello Rondell~Grest Penny Rug!
    This is your year Rondell!
    I put my candle holders in the freezer, overnight or a few hours.
    Then it should just pop out! Then I would run the jar through the dishwasher to remove any residue. The hot water will dissolve all of it!
    Good luck and let me know if this works.
  3. First off your blog is great. I love the header. I was once told by a lady that sold candles, if you put them in the freezer the extra wax will freeze and pull away from the sides and should fall out. I have never tried this but I guess it would be worth a shot. Have a great day:)
  4. Hi,
    New to your blog, I love your candle mat and that big jar. Put some really hot water in the jar and let sit 5-10 min should remove or soften the wax, you might have to do this a few times depending how much wax is in there.
    Nice to meet ya.
  6. Hi Rondell, What I do with wax like that is to set the jar in a bowl and fill around it with boiling water to warm the wax so it releases. Make sense? That's what I do when I want to change the wax in a burner but don't want to liquify the whole thing.
    Bye! Kimberly
  7. Hi, Rondell! I have missed you this last week :)
    Your penny rug looks great. I bought those wool pieces from the TS and felted them and have only used a small bit of it for my Dad's Christmas present. I'm hoping to soon find time to work on a candle mat or something small and getting back to my stitching, too :)
    My suggestion for the jar is the freezer. It really helps! You may have to take a table knife or something of that nature to get in the bottom and dig at it but when the wax is frozen it cooperates so much better! Now that I am using soy candles, I can't believe I messed with that stuff before! LOL
    Have a great day :)
  10. Rondell, Please, please post photos of the jar when you are done adding the label. I can't wait to see. To remove wax, I've poured boiling water into containers, let it sit a few minutes, then dump the water in the field behind my home, wipe out the container with a paper towel. This may take a couple of tries, but it usually gets all the old wax out. Good Luck. Ann
  13. Yes, I am going to have black rods but I'm not buying them that way. They'll be the like the top ones. I buy cafe rods and spray paint them black. Much cheaper :)
    Oh, believe me the curtains have given me a few headaches! LOL I just keep plugging away and telling myself I'll be really happy with them when they're completed :)
  14. I love the new look of your blog!
    I agree with the gals...the freezer is the easiest way to get the wax outa there. Can't wait to see the jar finished with the labels.
    Also, a question for you..I am interested in doing a penny rug. Can you tell me where you get your patterns and material??
    Thanks!
  16. Rondell,
    Your penny rug candle mat turned out really well. I would like to try one one of these days!
    What Janene said is what I do. Put the candle holders or votives in the freezer and they will just pop out! It really does work!
    It will tickle Joy to know that you showed her taekwondo pictures to Sydney! How old is Sydney?
    Have a great day!
  24. Your penny rug turned out fantastic Rondell! Good for you for trying something new.
    Your jars are gonna be cool! Can't wait to see them when they are done.
    I've been a slug today. I did do a couple loads of laundry, but that is it. Just felt out of sorts. I hope to join in one Wed. soon.
    I have 15 more lbs. to lose too since I've already lost 5 of them. I think I blew it a little today, but I'm determined to get back to my regular weight.
    I'll have to try a Swifter. We get really dusty since our village is off a hwy.
    Take care!
    Terry
  25. Hi Rondell,
    I love your penny rug candle mat and your new header is prim wonderful!!
    I have a big jar like yours...I put old spools and rag balls in mine. Can't wait to see yours when it's done.
    I also have some weight to lose, but a lot more than 15 lbs. I've been working at it since Sept. and have lost 13 lbs, but I still have a long ways to go.
    We got some snow today...only a inch or so, but better than the ice we've been getting. We have gotten ice 6 times in the last 3 weeks. I'ld rather have snow then ice any day.
  26. Good Morning Rondell-
    Stop by the next time your out this way. If it is a Tue or Thur.I am usally there 9-8 both days. Your penny rugs looks great. I was at the salvation army by the mall yesterday and was thinking about your wool find. I didn't see anything that would work for the rugs. Very busy, it was 50% off cloths. I found a platzcraft dip and chip plate that looks good with my dishes. $4.00 I was happy.
    I didn't even start taking my decorations down. I think it is due to the rain. I'm sick of it. You should try and stop by Treasures this weekend FRi and Sat she is having a sale. Keep your eye out for old brown bottles they look great with the labels too.
  29. Hi Rondell,
    Well, if ya want some snow.. just come a little north and you can have all you want.. here near DuBois.. off 1-80. My sis lives in Pittsburgh and they hardly ever get snow and it's always 10 degrees warmer there for the most part.
    I also love the swiffer duster and the swiffer mop.. the wet and dry one. great for wood and pergo floors...can also be used on linoleum and tile floors too. anything to make cleaner easier..
    Your blog is lovely.
    Hugs and have a wonderful day,
    Linda
  30. Love your penny rug ~ I want to make a similar one ~ very sweet and simple.
    You know, I don't know how to get the wax out of the bottom but I do know if you add just a wee bit of water in the bottom of a container BEFORE you melt your candle, the was just slides right out, never even sticks!
    Your jar is just lovely. My husband found a big ole jar buried onthe property and I've never know what to do with it. I now know it needs a label! What a great idea!
    Don't you just love spring cleaning in the winter? Who wants to stay indoors when the sun starts shining and earth is warm? Not me!
    Smiles,
    Lea
