The first pic is of my very first sampler, I even made the pattern up back then but I only used 2 strands of DMC because I just didn't know that you could use 3 to make the stitching stand out more plus I cross stitched and that is what I'd always used. I'm glad I kept it because it shows me that I have improved somewhat:) This one I did use a pattern and I'm sorry but I can't remember where I got it from...all the samplers I did here I did in the early 90's.
These next two are hung by my corner cabinet!
but I do love how they look. I had this one professionally framed that's when I was working:) I remember I got the pattern from the Good Housekeeping magazine. I keep it out all year too!
This one I drew from a picture in an old Country Living magazine, the lady's home was so prim:) I also had this one framed.
This is one from another old Country Sampler that I drew from a picture. I had put it another frame and glued it so when I went to change it to a black frame it tore...maybe from age? I didn't have the heart to throw it out so I framed it anyway and used black, checked homespun to put it on.

Some of these samplers, I forget which ones were made from Nick's white shirts that he wore when he worked at Ruby Tuesday's as a waiter for 5 years. They would get stained so he was always buying new ones and I'd use them for my samplers:)
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my samplers, I have alot more and some I've sold but I guess stitching is my thing:)
I'd like to try a stitchery. Your's are perfect!! I like the one with gingham it's cute. My favorite is the star school. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteRhondell,
ReplyDeleteI made the same stitchery with the 2 feather trees and star in the middle. I stitched the words that were on the chart, so it always gets put away with my other Christmas items. Wish I would have thought to leave off those words. I really like the last stitchery the one, that is ripped, when you look at the antique samplers lots of them have holes and wear spots on them. Makes it even more prim. Thanks for sharing. ~Ann
Reminds me I need to do more stitching! Nice works!
ReplyDeleteLove the stitchery. One of these days I will begin one. There's so many that I see and like. I'd make them all if I could, lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a good evening!
Kathy
Your stitchery looks great Rondell! It's nice when you find something you really enjoying doing. I love the bunny too. Hmm, I like it the way it is, but can see it black too. But this way, it will show up more and looks more natural. But then again, depends on where you will put it and what the background against it will be. Just my opinion. Whatever you decide it looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWOW - I love all of your stitchery and I really love the one that was torn. It makes it look old, worn and perfectly prim!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Lisa
You've been having some fun in spite of this endless winter... I so enjoyed all of your stitcheries and those very springy eggs, Rondell.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your weekend, my friend!
The Noah's ark one is my fave! Great job! I'd either leave the bunny as-is, or paint him a dark brown, then sand. Just like a yummy chocolate bunny!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day! Kimberly
HI Rondell!....my daughter-on-law recently took up counted cross stitch, I know nothing about any of it!....your's look great!....painting, sanding, and baking the bunny sounds like a good idea to make him look more primitive....enjoy the rest of your weekend! Janet :)
ReplyDeleteRondell,
ReplyDeleteI love all of your stitcheries. I need to get at mine more than I do. Are you going to open a selling blog ~ that would be wonderful if you do.
Pam
Improved somewhat? I think your stitcheries back then are just as awesome as the ones you do now!:)
ReplyDeleteI think I knew from my first visit to your blog that you were an accomplished stitcher! I have admired your talents ever since! And of all the stitcheries you showed today, I love the one that tore the best! Adding the fabric makes it look so prim! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Rondell!
Rondell, I just love all of your stitcheries! I think you should paint the bunny a rich chocolate color and sand him a little to have a chocolate bunny! LOl!
ReplyDeleteThose stitcherys are so lovely!! Love seeing the alphabet stitch as well as the noah's ark one!
ReplyDeleteMighty fetching stitcheries! I love them all and think they look very authentic.
ReplyDeleteYES, paint the bunny black, this "black paint on everything" idea is great, I'm thinking, it looks so good and things just "pop" out when they are painted black!!!
Wonderul stitchery! You have a fan. Some of my older relatives that are gone now took so much pride in their stichery. It is nice to make something to be proud of. All My Best
ReplyDeleteI love your stitcheries. I really like the one you had to fix. I thought at first it was supposed to be like that. I hope to give this a try one day soon.
ReplyDeleteDonna
Love all your stitcheries, I love the one that is torn, looks even more prim! I think i am gonna try that!
ReplyDeleteRondell~
ReplyDeleteThank you for having pity on my pitiful attempt and showing your first stitcheries!
Yours look really good!
I believe that I will start with words and move up from there.
I purchased some wool coats at GW to cut up and possibly use those to fill in the large areas...like the roof of the house!
Painting is more my forte, I think!
Love all your Samplers Rondell ! That bunny is cute ! I think he would look neat if you painted him black or even brown. Hope you are having a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteJanae
Wow, my goodness you have been busy.
ReplyDeleteTHEY ARE ALL JUST BEAUTIFUL.
Karen
Wow.. love your stitchery. I made my first one last week. It's really fun and easy. I can't wait to make more. I do believe the bunny needs some prim'n up. Can't wait to see what you do. I LOVE your blog and thanks for the nice comments on mine.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Stella
Good Sunday Morning-I agree with some of the other gals with painting the bunny brown. You could rub him with some spices too.Keep us posted on his progress. You really are talented at stitching. Maybe this spring you and I could meet I always wanted to learn how and I don't know anyone who stichies. I would love to order one from you if you see any. My fav is the one with the fabric too. The last time I was at The Rusty Angel I purchased one much much to expensive but it was with some Christmas money from my clients. I love it.

I love looking at old samplers...I use to cross stitch years ago and still have some of them I did...Lucky you getting to meet a fellow blogger....I bet you two had a great time together...thanks for coming by to check on me....it is so good to be back up & running again! Take care my friend and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteRondell, I love your stitcheries!! So prim looking. I, too, like to stitch. I just started this past fall and became hooked quickly! I'm always looking for something to give me pattern ideas. It is really such an easy craft. My problem is making the stitcheries, and not getting them stained and framed!
ReplyDeleteJanet A.
I love all of your stitcheries! I bet they look great throughout your home! I love that they were made from Nick's shirts! I am constantly using old pillowcases or sheets to make my ornies - Since I am going to paint them - no one will ever know! shhhhh
ReplyDeleteNicole
Wow, I wish that I was half as good at making stitcheries now, as what you were in the beginning Rondell!
ReplyDeleteI love all your stitcheries. Since moving I haven't unpacked mine yet, but you are giving me an inspiration to do so. Your bunny, I would paint him & sand him. How smart to use Nick's shirt to stitch on.
ReplyDeleteRondell--your stitcheries are perfectly prim--i really enjoyed looking at them--you have inspired me to get busy!! Have a great day. Julie
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!! I love seeing your stitchin from early on until now. I used to make samplers like crazy but now my eyes don't like the detailed work as much. It takes me a lot longer to finish one now.
ReplyDeletewow...they're great. i really like the simple tree/star one!
ReplyDeleteHi Rondell,
ReplyDeleteLove your stitcheries...my fav is the one that actually tore..it looks so much older..I might just have to get ripping on some of mine and frame them with the homespun. Thanks for the pics.
Hugs,
Deb
Hi Rondell,
ReplyDeleteLove 'em all...your first stitcheries are wonderful, I would've never known they were your "first"...
...they way better than my first...and second...and third! lol ;)
I think some are just born with a stitchers talent...and then there's me :) hehe!
Have a wonderful day,
hugs~Kath
